Why Be the Light?
There is something powerful about light.
Light warms. Light illuminates. Light guides. It helps things grow. It can bring life back into spaces that have gone dim. And sometimes, light simply helps us see the next step a little more clearly.
That is the heart behind Be the Light Consulting.
The name is rooted in Matthew 5:14: “You are the light of the world.” I believe that applies not only to people, but also to the organizations serving our communities every day.
For more than 15 years, I worked in the nonprofit sector. Along the way, I had the privilege of working alongside churches, nonprofits, community organizations, volunteers, and leaders who were deeply committed to making life better for others.
I also saw the challenges behind the mission.
I saw great organizations struggle to secure funding—not because their work wasn't worthy, but because they didn't have the infrastructure or capacity to pursue it. I saw passionate leaders carrying too much because systems had not been built to support them. And I saw organizations doing incredible work while struggling to tell their story, measure their impact, or build the processes needed to grow.
When those things happen, the mission can suffer.
That is why Be the Light exists.
I want nonprofits and mission-driven organizations to shine from the inside out. Because the organizations serving our communities are already lights. They warm communities through compassion. They guide people toward resources and opportunities. They help individuals and families grow. They bring hope into places that need it most.
My job is to help strengthen the light.
Through Be the Light, I help organizations strengthen their People, Processes, and Profit so they have the capacity to carry out their mission with greater clarity and sustainability.
And this blog will be an extension of that work.
Here, I'll share nonprofit news, practical tips, lessons from the field, resources, and some of what I'm learning as I build Be the Light. You won't find a lot of fluff here. My goal is simple: facts and love. Practical information delivered with care for the people doing this work.
Because for many of us, this is more than a job. It's a calling.
I'm excited to welcome you along this journey. I hope this becomes a place where nonprofit and community leaders can find a little support, a little guidance, and maybe even a little light for the road ahead.
Let's shine.
